Teresa Au is collaborating with Suzanne Stroebe.
Teresa Au is a behavioral health counselor from San Francisco, CA. She has worked in community mental health, providing individual counseling to ethnically diverse clients with mental health and substance abuse issues in San Francisco’s welfare-to-work program. Many of her clients have endured homelessness and have survived rape, shootings, or childhood abuse. She has seen first-hand how their mental health symptoms impact every aspect of their lives, including their physical health and daily functioning. At the same time, she has witnessed incredible courage and perseverance in the face of such hardships. Teresa has also volunteered with local NGOs in Ecuador, Peru, and India. She was particularly inspired by her experiences volunteering with Shanker Foundation, a grassroots NGO that provides supportive services and advocacy to people living with HIV/AIDS in Darjeeling, India. Currently, Teresa conducts research on trauma and PTSD at the National Center for PTSD in Boston, MA.
